Professional Training in Equine Equipment Ergonomics | Specialization in bit and bridle fitting

Do you really want to be able to help horses by adjusting their tack correctly? And train you professionally to become an equine consultant specializing in the adjustment of bits, bridles and bitless bridles?

From October 2025, Equibitfit is launching a renewed professional training course, specially developed for people who want to immerse themselves in the adaptation of horse equipment such as bits, bridles and bitless bridles, with a view to well-being, functionality and substantiated knowledge.

What can you expect?

During the training, you will receive a broad and practice-oriented foundation in bit and bridle fitting. Topics covered include: the anatomy of the head and mouth, the effect of different bits and bridles, behavior and stress signals, fit and choice of equipment, rider influence, biomechanics, ethics and communication with owners and other professionals.

What you can expect in terms of content and structure:

  • 70 hours of theory (online in English), including personal follow-up
  • 80 hours of practice with horses and riders of various levels and disciplines
  • Space for interaction, feedback and individual guidance
  • Total duration of the training: max. 6 months
  • Brand-independent and widely applicable across all disciplines
  • Intended for independent professional practice as bit, bridle and bitless fitter

You will be guided by a team of experienced and varied teachers, with specializations in behavior, biomechanics, saddle fitting, equine dentistry, among others. In this way, you learn to look at and advise from several angles, adapted to the situation of each horse.

Practical information

  • Theoretical start : end of October 2025 (available online after registration)
  • Practical weeks: February – March 2026
    • Consecutive days at locations in Belgium and France, so that it can also be well planned for participants from other countries.
  • New session: February 2026
  • We do our best to register the training at the CRKBO, which means that it meets the quality requirements of professional training
  • Cost information: €4,500 (incl. 21% VAT) (including access to all materials, personal support and exam times)
  • An admission interview is part of the registration process, so that we can see together if the program is a good fit for your background and ambitions

Since 2017, Equibitfit has been training equine ergonomists. The training has been developed from practical experience, by a multidisciplinary team, with a focus on what you really need to work independently. You will learn independent advice from the brand, work with real clients and work with other professionals such as veterinarians, osteopaths or teachers.

Dr Karin Leibbrandt

Veterinarian specialized in rehabilitation and horse training. She has developed her own working method for horses with cervical problems, back problems or lameness. Karin practices in the Netherlands in her rehabilitation center and has also written a book.

Veterinarian specializing in equine dentistry. Ilse has specialized in this field and has her own clinic for dental care of horses in Belgium.

Thirza Hendriks

Scientist and horse trainer specializing in the study of movement. She is based in the Netherlands and South Africa and regularly travels to Italy, Sweden, USA, Taiwan and Australia. Thirza is part of the Equine studies team specialized in horse dissection and she has her own company and training in Functional Training.
